Well, someone familiar to readers is to blame. In fact, an elderly Earl Sutton later tells Carl that that walker must have been the first their civilization has seen in 10 years. Walker appearances are exceedingly rare nowadays. That peace is interrupted when a walker stumbles onto the Grimes’ property and Carl puts it down with a very familiar sword. There we see an adult Carl Grimes, his wife Sophia, and their daughter Andrea, peacefully living out their days. The narrative jumps forward many years to a quiet farm in the countryside. While the walking dead represented a violent threat and the life as we knew it on Earth for 192 issues, they represent something far different in this 193rd and final one. The final issue of The Walking Dead essentially comes down to a property law dispute. Here is how The Walking Dead comic concludes. Still, if you want to anticipate how The Walking Dead TV series will end, there is no better starting point than the source material. The show seems unlikely to do something similar given that it still has many stories it wants to tell. Also, the Walking Dead comic’s final issue deals entirely with a flash forward to a world in which the walking dead still exist but are no longer a big threat. But the show has not been shy about shuffling around character arcs as needed. Of course, the show has deviated from the comic quite a bit at this point, mostly in terms of which characters are and are not alive. If we better want to understand how The Walking Dead TV series might wrap up its story (and create new ones for the Daryl and Carol spinoff) it’s worth examining how the comic concluded its tale. Back in July of 2019, Walking Dead comic creator Robert Kirkman pulled off a similar maneuver by suddenly and unexpectedly bringing his decades-long series to a conclusion with Issue #193. While bringing the story of The Walking Dead to a close is certainly shocking, this is ground that the franchise has trodden before. Between season 10’s remaining seven episodes and season 11’s confirmed 24, The Walking Dead now has something that was previously unthinkable: an expiration date. The network has announced that season 11 will be the end of the road for the long-running zombie hit. Because while The Walking Dead franchise will live on in Fear the Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, and at least two new announced spinoffs, The Walking Dead proper is soon coming to an end.
